Dongjak-gu in Seoul will hold a career lecture for parents and children aimed at broadening their understanding of various professions and helping them map out concrete career paths, the district announced Monday.
The lecture will run from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Nov. 24 at the grand auditorium on the fourth floor of the Dongjak-gu District Office.
Pyo Chang-won, director of the Pyo Chang-won Institute of Criminal Science and an advisory committee member for forensic investigations at the Korean National Police Agency, will deliver the talk. The lecture, themed "Heroes Who Fight Crime," will cover career exploration, future competencies and career education.
The career exploration segment will examine the real-world roles of professionals who uncover the truth behind crimes — including crime scene investigators, criminal profilers and forensic scientists. The future competencies segment will focus on the skills and qualities needed to build a career in criminal science.
A career education segment will then walk attendees through a step-by-step process — from exploring career options and choosing a major to developing skills and gaining hands-on experience — to help them build concrete career plans.
Registration is open to parents, their children and interested residents, with 350 spots available on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications open at 9 a.m. Friday through the integrated reservation system on the Dongjak-gu District Office website.
"I hope this lecture will be a meaningful experience for parents and children who are thinking about their children's futures together," Dongjak-gu District Mayor Ryu Sam-young said. "We will continue to create diverse opportunities for the talented individuals who will lead the future to discover their aptitudes and potential, and to turn their dreams into concrete goals."
