A regular customer at a gukbap restaurant was caught on the establishment's CCTV secretly dropping a wet wipe into the soup before complaining about a foreign object and leaving without paying.
According to JTBC's "Sageon Banjang," a crime news program, the in-laws of a viewer identified only as A run a gukbap restaurant in Incheon.
The incident occurred Wednesday. A customer complained that a wet wipe had been found in the gukbap.
A's mother-in-law, who had been washing dishes at the time, rushed out to the floor and apologized repeatedly until the customer left, and did not charge for the meal.
A later reviewed the restaurant's CCTV footage and found that the customer had used chopsticks to pick up a wet wipe hidden between dishes and drop it into the gukbap — then immediately complained about finding a foreign object.
What made the incident even more baffling was that the customer was not a first-time visitor but a regular. According to A, the customer had visited so often that A's in-laws knew the person by name.
A said they wanted to report the incident to police, but the in-laws talked them out of it.
A decided to publicize the incident in hopes of preventing similar occurrences in the future.
