Pohang, in North Gyeongsang Province, has appointed Do Seong-hyeon as the sixth chairman of the Pohang City Facilities Management Corporation, the city announced Tuesday.
Do's term runs three years, through Nov. 2, 2029.
Do entered public service in 1983 and built broad administrative and organizational experience across a range of senior posts, including chief of Yeonil-eup, head of the public transportation division and director of the welfare bureau.
Drawing on extensive hands-on experience across city administration, Do is regarded as well suited to improve the efficiency of the corporation's operations and strengthen citizen-centered public services.
The appointment followed a candidate nomination process in September, when an executive recommendation committee reviewed applications and conducted interviews, and a confirmation hearing before the Pohang City Council in October that assessed professional competence and qualifications.
The city council's hearing report returned a qualified verdict on Do.
"I will reinforce the safety management framework and deliver customer-centered services that meet citizens' expectations, so the corporation can earn their trust anew," Do said.
Pohang Mayor Park Yong-seon said he expects the new chairman's diverse experience and communication skills to bring fresh energy to the corporation.
The Pohang City Facilities Management Corporation was established in January 2011 as a wholly city-funded entity with capital of 200 million won ($149,000). It manages and operates 74 major public facilities and projects in the Pohang area under contract, including the city's main sports complex.
