Seoul's Jungnang-gu received a prime minister's commendation for its contributions to improving the accuracy and reliability of large-scale statistical surveys.
The district announced Tuesday that it received the commendation at the 2026 Awards Ceremony for Meritorious Service in Large-Scale Statistical Surveys, held Monday at the auditorium of the Government Daejeon Complex. Jungnang-gu is the only one of Seoul's 25 autonomous districts to receive a government commendation.
The awards were established to recognize institutions and individuals who contributed to the successful conduct of large-scale statistical surveys. A total of 69 individuals and 16 organizations nationwide were selected for government commendations.
Jungnang-gu has built experience in statistical surveys since participating in pilot surveys in 2014, enabling it to carry out large-scale surveys with consistency. The district was particularly recognized for boosting participation in the Population and Housing Census through multi-channel outreach and systematic field management, achieving the second-highest survey completion rate among all autonomous districts.
Staff members and field surveyors who conducted the on-site work were also recognized. A total of 21 people — four Jungnang-gu civil servants and 17 field surveyors — were selected to receive commendations from the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the Ministry of Statistics.
"This award is a shared achievement of the residents and businesses who actively cooperated with the surveys, and the field surveyors and staff who fulfilled their responsibilities on the ground," District Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi said. "We will continue to produce accurate and reliable statistics to lay the groundwork for policies that improve the lives of our residents."
