Nowon-gu District Mayor Seo Jun-o attended the opening ceremony of the North Chungcheong Province direct-trade market at Deungnamuмu Culture Park on Thursday, encouraging participants and receiving donated goods.
The market was organized to help local producers expand their sales channels and give residents a chance to browse and purchase a variety of regional food products close to home. It runs through Saturday, spanning three days in total.
Producer groups from 11 cities and counties across North Chungcheong Province took part, showcasing more than 60 types of agricultural and specialty products — including rice, ginseng, grapes, jujubes, sweet potatoes, shiitake mushrooms and mixed grains. The event also drew attention with programs featuring local cuisine, on-site rice milling and rural culture experiences.
Seo received donated goods worth 3.3 million won ($2,460) before joining guests to encourage and meet with farming households from North Chungcheong Province participating in the event.
"I hope this direct-trade market helps North Chungcheong farmers who are struggling to find sales outlets, and gives our residents a great opportunity to confidently purchase quality local agricultural products," Seo said. "We will continue to provide full administrative support to promote mutual growth between urban and rural communities and make shopping more convenient for our residents."
