Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power held a nuclear clean hydrogen research forum in Prague, Czech Republic, on Thursday (local time).
The event was organized as a follow-up to an MOU on nuclear clean hydrogen production research cooperation that KHNP and Czech research and engineering firm UJV-Rez signed in July last year.
Under that agreement, the two organizations committed to conducting joint foundational research, advancing nuclear hydrogen production demonstration projects, and exchanging information on hydrogen production technology development.
Founded in 1955, UJV-Rez has spent roughly 70 years providing operational support for energy facilities and conducting work in nuclear medicine and hydrogen technology development. The company holds end-to-end capabilities in the hydrogen sector, spanning research and development, design, licensing and facility construction.
At the forum, UJV-Rez presented the results of 10 months of research conducted since January, outlining the feasibility of nuclear clean hydrogen production projects in the Czech Republic and the direction for future commercialization.
KHNP introduced its hydrogen cooperation progress with the Czech Republic and its hydrogen business capabilities.
Participants then discussed clean hydrogen applications and cross-industry cooperation with representatives from the Czech government, CEZ Group and local gas pipeline operators.
KHNP has participated annually in the international hydrogen technology conference organized by the Czech Hydrogen Association since launching the Korea-Czech hydrogen cooperation forum in the Czech Republic in 2024.
The company has consistently expanded its foothold in the Czech hydrogen market, signing nuclear clean hydrogen cooperation MOUs with the Czech Hydrogen Association and CEZ Group, among others.
"The Czech Republic holds significant potential for hydrogen industry growth, underpinned by nuclear power generation, making it an important partner country," said Jeong Byeong-su, head of KHNP's renewable and hydro power business division. "We will continue to create new business opportunities in the European hydrogen market."
