Yongsan-gu in Seoul (district mayor Park Hee-young) will hold the 2026 Yongsan-gu College Admissions Symposium — the "3rd Yongsan College Admissions Guide" — on June 17 at 6:30 p.m. at Garam Studio on the first floor of Yongsan Arts Hall (150 Noksapyeong-daero).
The event is organized around the theme "Direction of University Admissions for the 2028 Academic Year," reflecting the shifting education landscape brought on by the revised 2022 national curriculum and the introduction of the high school credit system.
While most district offices run college admissions programs as straightforward information sessions, Yongsan-gu has set itself apart by adopting a symposium format that combines expert presentations with in-depth Q&A, giving participants a more interactive experience.
Three public school educators will deliver presentations addressing key issues in the changing university admissions system. Lee Min-gyu, a teacher at Osan High School, will speak on "Changes to the 2022 Revised Curriculum and Student Record Documentation." Jeong Je-won, a teacher at Sungui Women's High School and a lead EBS instructor, will cover "Features of 2028 University Admissions and Student Record-Based Selection." Park Chang-uk, a teacher at Sangmun High School, will present on "The 2028 Integrated College Scholastic Ability Test and Exam-Based Selection."
A 60-minute Q&A session will follow, during which participants can put their questions about the 2028 admissions changes directly to the experts.
Individual universities are now releasing their "2028 University Admissions Implementation Plans," which apply to current second-year high school students. The event is expected to help students and parents gain an early understanding of the evolving admissions landscape and map out their preparation strategies.
The event is open to approximately 200 middle and high school students and their parents residing in Yongsan-gu, and admission is free. Registration runs first-come, first-served on the Yongsan Jinhak Pass website from 10 a.m. June 1 through 4 p.m. June 11.
"Gaps in admissions information can translate into gaps in educational opportunity," district mayor Park said. "I hope this event helps participants better understand the changing admissions system and build tailored college preparation plans." She added that Yongsan-gu would continue to provide admissions information grounded in real-world expertise and practical relevance.
