LG Electronics donates 440 indoor plant devices to North Gyeongsang elementary schools

LG Electronics is supplying its LG Tiiun Mini plant lifestyle appliance to 23 elementary schools in North Gyeongsang Province to support smart-farm education.

The company announced Monday that it held a launch ceremony for the "Green Button Supporters" initiative with the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation's North Gyeongsang branch on May 28.

LG Electronics provided 440 units of the LG Tiiun Mini and conducted training sessions for school staff on how to use the device and grow plants with it.

The appliance works by inserting a seed kit, adding water and nutrients, and switching on its LED light, allowing users to grow plants with minimal effort. Its compact design makes it easy to place on a bedside table, office desk or dining table.

This marks the first time LG Electronics has supplied the LG Tiiun Mini on a large scale for educational purposes. The National Agricultural Cooperative Federation's North Gyeongsang branch chose the device because it allows plants to be grown even during hot summers or winters when outdoor growth is difficult.

The project aims to deepen students' understanding of plant cultivation by having them grow plants in a smart-farming environment that incorporates IT technology. It is also expected to support emotional well-being and help students develop a positive attitude toward nature.

LG Electronics has also donated LG Tiiun Mini units to hospitals to support patients' emotional well-being and provided the devices to regular child sponsors as part of its corporate social responsibility efforts.

"We will pursue a range of activities to make it easy for anyone to enjoy a plant lifestyle through the LG Tiiun Mini," said Yoon Seong-woon, head of the HS/ES Advanced Business Development division at LG Electronics' HS Business Unit.
