Filters and purification systems installed at Guryong Neighborhood Park, Yanghwa Children's Park and Samgae Children's Park fountains
Regular and on-demand inspections to ensure safe, comfortable operation; water quality management functions strengthened
Mapo-gu has upgraded ground fountains at three of its parks into full water-play facilities and launched formal operations June 1.
The project aims to provide a comfortable outdoor retreat for residents visiting parks during the hot summer months, while strengthening water quality management so children can splash around in a cleaner, safer environment.
The upgrades were carried out at Guryong Neighborhood Park (456 Worldcupbuk-ro), Yanghwa Children's Park (394-1 Hapjeong-dong) and Samgae Children's Park (555-1 Dohwa-dong).
The district installed new filtration and purification systems at the existing decorative ground fountains to remove impurities and keep the water clean.
With the additions, Mapo-gu now operates five water-play ground fountains across the district, including the previously operating facilities at Changjeon Children's Park and Saebich Culture Forest.
The fountains run daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., cycling through 40 minutes of operation followed by a 20-minute rest.
In addition, Mapo-gu conducts ongoing checks of fountain floors for debris, slippery surfaces, displaced protective covers, nozzle direction and water pressure to ensure safe operation.
Reservoir cleaning, water replacement and filter inspections are carried out weekly, while safety checks of control panels and other facility equipment are conducted monthly to maintain a safe and comfortable environment.
Water quality testing is conducted every 15 days from the opening date, commissioned through the Mapo-gu Public Health Center or a certified drinking-water testing agency.
Operator information, testing dates and water quality results are posted on information boards at each site so users can enjoy the fountains with confidence.
Beyond the water-play fountains, Mapo-gu operates 23 decorative water features at locations including the Gongdeok Five-way Intersection traffic island, Ssangnyongsan Children's Park and Bueong-i Neighborhood Park, creating a network of cool retreats across the district this summer.
"We hope the ground fountains become a joyful summer playground for children and a refreshing spot where residents can take a quick break from the heat," a Mapo-gu official said. "We will spare no effort in managing water quality and facility safety so that all residents can use them with peace of mind."
