Gyeongju mayor holds first senior staff meeting since local elections

Gyeongju Mayor Ju Nak-young chaired his first division and bureau chiefs meeting since the June 3 local elections on Tuesday, marking the start of full-scale operations under the ninth elected-term administration.

The meeting, held at the city hall video conference room, covered the direction for the first supplementary budget revision of 2026, as well as key pending projects including post-APEC initiatives, the relocation of the Agricultural Technology Center and the development of an e-mobility industrial complex in Angang.

To strengthen tourism competitiveness after the APEC summit, the city plans to develop a media wall and nighttime landscape at the Bomun Tourism Complex, along with a cooling road network. The city will also press ahead with the Agricultural Technology Center relocation and construction of a new agricultural innovation town to build a foundation for future farming.

The meeting also addressed summer natural disaster preparedness, heat wave response and water safety management. Officials reviewed livelihood issues directly affecting residents, including enhanced care services for elderly people living alone, expanded veterans' honorary allowances and improvements to aging facilities at traditional markets.

"With the launch of the ninth elected-term administration, we must follow through without fail on the campaign pledges and key priorities we promised to the people," Mayor Ju said. "Please manage every project with a sense of responsibility so that we can deliver changes and results that citizens can actually feel."
