Yangcheon-gu in Seoul announced Tuesday that it has shifted its "Small-Scale Apartment Complex Support Project" from periodic application cycles to a year-round, open-application system.
The change is aimed at reducing cases where residents miss application windows and lose access to support. The project subsidizes safety repair costs for apartment complexes of fewer than 20 units that are at least 20 years old, covering up to 80 percent of construction costs and capped at 20 million won ($12,900) per applicant. Eligible work includes repairs to outdoor structures — such as fences, retaining walls and stone embankments — that pose collapse or cracking hazards. Starting this year, the district is also covering fire insurance premiums and the installation of automatic rooftop emergency door openers for small apartment complexes not required to carry disaster liability insurance.
