Woo Sung-jin launches transition committee ahead of taking office as Daegu Dong-gu district chief

Woo Sung-jin, the incoming chief of Daegu's Dong-gu district, officially launched his transition committee for the ninth directly elected term Wednesday at Ayang Arts Center.

Oh Chang-gyun, former president of the Daegu-North Gyeongsang Province Research Institute, will chair the committee. It comprises 14 members organized into four subcommittees covering planning, public relations and administration; culture, sports and education; urban architecture and transportation; and economy, welfare and the environment.

The committee will spend roughly the next 15 days conducting departmental briefings and on-site inspections.

"There are many challenges to address, including the innovation city project and the relocation of the K2 military airbase," Woo said. "Those will be handled as medium- to long-term priorities, but any policies that can be executed immediately after I take office will be pursued without delay."

He added that he would "create tangible changes in daily life that residents can feel, guided by the belief that the answers to local problems are found on the ground," and pledged to revive Dong-gu's sluggish economy drawing on his four decades of management expertise.
