Six of the 26 players on South Korea's squad for the 2026 North America World Cup have roots in the Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province region.
According to the Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province football associations on Thursday, the six players each attended at least one elementary, middle or high school in the region.
Three are from Daegu: Lee Dong-gyeong and Lee Han-beom, both alumni of Hwawon Elementary School, and Bae Jun-ho, who attended Banyawol Elementary School and Daeryun Middle School.
The three from North Gyeongsang Province are Kim Jin-gyu, who attended Pohang Dong Elementary School; Hwang Hee-chan, a graduate of Pohang Steelworks High School; and Song Beom-geun, who went to Sangju Yongun High School.
Among the coaching staff, former national team player Kim Jin-gyu is a graduate of Andong High School.
