Belgium's Jan De Nul, Netherlands' Boskalis
Daehan Electric Wire said Wednesday it signed separate memorandums of understanding with Belgium's Jan De Nul and the Netherlands' Boskalis at the Korea-EU Energy Transition Cooperation Forum in Brussels, agreeing to collaborate on high-voltage direct current (HVDC) submarine cable projects.
The forum was organized by South Korea's Ministry of Climate, Environment and Energy on the occasion of President Lee Jae-myung's state visit to the EU. Daehan Electric Wire was the only South Korean company to sign an MOU at the event, laying the groundwork for concrete business cooperation.
Jan De Nul and Boskalis hold globally recognized expertise in offshore wind, marine infrastructure and submarine cable installation. Both firms have pursued a wide range of projects in Europe and other global markets, drawing on their experience in large-scale maritime energy projects. Through the agreements, Daehan Electric Wire plans to expand cooperation in HVDC submarine cables and related infrastructure, and to jointly explore new business opportunities in the energy transition market.
"This agreement is expected to strengthen the global competitiveness of South Korea's power and energy industry, enhance our technology and business capabilities in the HVDC grid sector, and contribute to expanding the role and standing of Korean companies," said Song Jong-min, vice chairman of Daehan Electric Wire.
