"Lee government is proving how peace can transform people's lives"
Democratic Party of Korea leader Jung Chung-rae said Monday that President Lee Jae Myung's diplomatic record is establishing him as a "world-class" leader on the global stage. "As one of the people, I feel proud," Jung said at a supreme council meeting at the National Assembly that morning.
Jung recalled remarks he heard frequently during the local elections. "When former President Yoon Suk Yeol went abroad, people felt anxious every time," he said. "But when President Lee goes abroad, people feel a sense of anticipation."
He said citizens repeatedly told him they felt pride and a sense of national honor at the record-breaking achievements Lee has delivered on each overseas trip.
Jung also said the Lee government is carrying forward the spirit of the June 15 inter-Korean joint declaration and boldly opening the path to peace on the Korean Peninsula. He added that the administration is proving how peace can transform the lives of ordinary citizens.
"President Lee is actively pursuing peace through diplomacy," Jung said. He noted that at a special Mass at St. Paul's Basilica in Vatican City on Sunday, Lee made clear South Korea's commitment to upholding the values of peace and solidarity.
"Going forward, the Democratic Party will work alongside the Lee government to usher in an ever more durable era of peace on the Korean Peninsula," he added.
