Nongshim said its Yukpo-kkang snack, launched on June 8, sold more than 1 million bags within its first week.
The product grew out of a consumer idea. A "beef jerky snack" concept proposed at a "Creative Workshop" Nongshim held with consumers in 2024 led directly to its development. The snack reimagines the rich, savory flavor of beef jerky in a crispy format, with a deep beef taste accented by chili and pepper for a spicy kick.
Yukpo-kkang is available across online and offline channels, including hypermarkets, convenience stores and e-commerce platforms. Early demand has been strong enough that some retail outlets have reported shortages and the product has appeared on secondhand trading sites. Nongshim plans to expand production to its Gumi factory, adding to existing lines at its Busan and Asan facilities.
Where the earlier Meokttae-kkang helped pioneer the "adult drinking-snack" market, Yukpo-kkang broadens the snack category further by incorporating premium bar snack "yukpo," or beef jerky, as a new ingredient. The launch has also drawn positive attention for bringing a fresh sensibility to the "kkang series" brand heritage that has continued since Saewoo-kkang debuted in 1971.
"We will continue to explore various ways to expand the boundaries of the snack market in order to broaden consumers' culinary experiences," a Nongshim official said.
