"Voices from the field will be the starting point of my legislative work"
Rep. Kim Seong-beom of the Democratic Party of Korea, who represents Seogwipo on Jeju Island, announced Monday that he has launched a "100-day listening tour" visiting communities across Seogwipo, beginning with Seongsan-eup.
That morning, Kim visited Sinyang-ri in Seongsan-eup, then traveled to Goseong-ri, Ojo-ri and Samdal 1-ri in the afternoon to hear residents' concerns about daily inconveniences and local issues.
Kim said the tour was organized so he could visit Seogwipo communities in person as a National Assembly member, listen directly to residents, and channel their concerns into efforts to secure national funding and advance legislative and policy goals.
Over the next 100 days, he plans to visit villages across Seogwipo's towns, townships and neighborhoods in sequence to assess local issues. Beyond village visits, he will hold roundtable meetings with groups representing farmers and fishers, small-business owners, youth, women, senior citizens, social welfare workers and the tourism industry, targeting more than 100 in-person engagements in total.
Requests raised in the field will not simply be noted. Kim's office plans to coordinate with the central government, Jeju Island authorities and Seogwipo City to secure budgets, improve regulations and reflect community needs in policy.
"The answer to people's livelihoods is always found in the field," Kim said. "From small everyday inconveniences in villages to long-standing community projects, I will make what residents tell me directly the starting point of my work in the National Assembly. I will repay the trust Seogwipo citizens have placed in me with legislative work that leaves no gaps."
