Singer Lee Seung-cheol's daughter wins silver at international science olympiad in London

Singer Lee Seung-cheol shared his pride Monday after his second daughter, Lee Won, 18, won a silver medal at an international competition.

Lee posted several photos on Instagram on Monday, writing "Lee Won, science olympiad silver medal!!!"

The photos showed Lee Won at the International Greenwich Olympiad (IGO), an international youth research and project competition held in London. In one image, she stood on the awards stage with a silver medal around her neck, beaming as she held up a South Korean flag.

Other photos captured scenes from the competition venue as well as a quieter moment — Lee Won studying at a London cafe with a book open in front of her.

Lee offered no further explanation beyond announcing the win, but his pride in his daughter came through clearly.

Online commenters responded warmly, with reactions including "That's truly amazing," "I'm so proud seeing her hold the flag," "You raised her well," and "Congratulations, Lee Won."

The International Greenwich Olympiad is a global academic competition held in the United Kingdom in which students from around the world present research projects for evaluation. The competition covers science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) as well as environmental issues, social problem-solving and innovative ideas. Participants are assessed on the creativity, feasibility and social impact of their research, and the event serves as a platform for international academic exchange.

Meanwhile, Lee, born in 1966, made his debut in the Korean music industry in 1986 and has since released numerous hit songs, including "Hiya," "Don't Say Goodbye," "Western Sky" and "Never Ending Story." He married businesswoman Park Hyun-jeong in 2007, and the couple have two daughters.
