Min Hyeong-bae, mayor-elect of the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City, and Kim Dae-jung, the incoming superintendent of education for the integrated special city, will skip inauguration ceremonies and go straight to work.
Min is scheduled to report for his first day at the Jeonnam-Gwangju Special City Council in Muan, South Jeolla Province, on July 1, the day the integrated special city officially launches.
The council's first plenary session is set for that day, and Min plans to attend and take his oath of office on the floor.
He will conduct official business at the Muan office, where his first administrative approvals will also be processed. His transition team is considering having him rotate to the Suncheon or Gwangju office afterward.
Min has said he intends to work on a rotating basis across the three offices in Muan, Gwangju and Suncheon after taking office.
"Since integrating operations is the priority, we decided against a grand inauguration ceremony," a transition team official said. "We are considering a separate public launch event to be held together with citizens."
