LG Uplus cuts carbon, boosts social responsibility in ESG report

LG Uplus disclosed its environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance for last year, highlighting progress in reducing carbon emissions and expanding social responsibility.

The company said Tuesday it had published its "2025 Sustainability Management Report," detailing its ESG achievements.

The report reorganizes key issues — information security and personal data protection, telecommunications service stability and network quality, energy reduction and renewable energy transition, and customer satisfaction and social value creation through AI innovation — in line with the governance, strategy, risk management, and metrics and targets frameworks set by the Korea Sustainability Standards Board (KSSB).

The report also introduces a new section on digital inclusion, breaking down the needs of digitally underserved populations into three areas: access, skills and safety.

LG Uplus presented ESG performance across all three pillars through key indicators. On the environmental front, the company detailed its climate response and energy transition achievements. It received a Leadership A rating from the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) and was inducted into the Carbon Management Honors Club. The company also completed approval of its carbon neutrality target under the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

In the social sphere, LG Uplus expanded its customer satisfaction and corporate responsibility performance. The company ranked first in the mobile phone service category of the National Customer Satisfaction Index (NCSI) last year. It also received a "very excellent" rating in the user protection assessment conducted by the Korea Communications Commission and maintained four ISO certifications for international information security standards.

On governance, the company appointed an outside director as board chair to strengthen board independence and transparency, and increased the proportion of women on the board to enhance decision-making diversity. LG Uplus is also advancing its AI-based business structure to improve profitability while pursuing long-term corporate value enhancement.
