US President Donald Trump again pressed NATO allies, claiming the United States contributes the most to the alliance while receiving nothing in return.
Trump wrote on his Truth Social account Wednesday (local time) that "the United States spends more money on NATO than any other country, but gets nothing in return."
He claimed US NATO-related spending totaled $999 billion from 2014 to 2025, compared with $90.5 billion for the United Kingdom, $66.5 billion for France and $48.8 billion for Italy.
"Germany and other member countries paid far less than this," he added. "It's ridiculous!"
Trump did not cite any source or methodology for the figures.
Since returning to office, Trump has repeatedly demanded that NATO member states increase their defense spending.
He has been particularly critical of allies in the wake of the Iran war, arguing that NATO members failed to adequately share the US military burden.
The Trump administration has maintained that NATO members must significantly raise their defense spending as a share of gross domestic product. It has also emphasized its intention to restructure alliance relationships in a way that reduces the US security burden.
