Korea Ocean Business Corp. marks 8th anniversary with dialogue, community outreach

Korea Ocean Business Corp. (KOBC) marked its 8th founding anniversary, which falls July 5, with a day of open dialogue and community outreach. The state-run maritime support agency held its anniversary ceremony at its Busan headquarters on Wednesday, featuring a talk concert in which President Ahn Byung-gil took questions directly from employees.

The event departed from the traditional speech-centered format, with the agency head fielding staff questions and exchanging views in an open forum. The format was designed to foster a culture of horizontal communication and to shape the organization's future together with its employees.

The talk concert proceeded with answers to questions submitted by employees in advance, followed by additional questions from the floor. President Ahn spoke candidly about KOBC's management direction and organizational culture, as well as issues of interest to staff, building a shared sense of purpose.

Also held that day was a commissioning ceremony for new hires who joined the company in the first half of 2026 after beating competition of 136 applicants per position. Ahn pinned the agency badge on each of the nine new employees and congratulated them on their new start as members of the KOBC family. The new hires will deepen their understanding of the agency's key industries and roles through orientation and job training before being assigned to their respective departments at the end of next month.

All executives and employees then traveled to Namhang port in Yeongdo, Busan, where they joined the Korea Maritime Rescue Association in a marine environment cleanup. Staff collected waste left along the shoreline and around the port, and presented the association with a donation of 70 million won ($45,000) to support marine environmental conservation activities.

"On our 8th founding anniversary, KOBC will continue to serve as a reliable partner for the public and the maritime industry — a comprehensive maritime support institution that leads not only the sustainable development of the maritime sector but also the realization of social value," Ahn said.
