Seodaemun-gu announced Monday that it has launched a series of departmental work briefings to accelerate its vision of "A Golden Age of Seodaemun Built Together," marking the start of full-scale district governance under the ninth directly elected administration led by District Mayor Park Un-gi.
Park is presiding over the briefings as a forum to share policy directions and key issues and discuss action plans. "Administration must focus on substantive change rather than formality and appearances," he said.
At the first briefing Friday, Park laid out "practical administration" as the guiding principle of district governance, presenting three core commitments: putting residents first through open communication, streamlining official protocol and reforming formalistic work practices. "Please concentrate our administrative capacity on creating changes that residents can actually feel," he said.
Discussions kicked off with the activation of resident autonomy councils — the first item Park approved upon taking office — along with plans to revitalize the Sinchon and Ewha commercial districts and develop substantive youth policy reflecting young residents' voices. Departmental briefings covering transportation and the environment, health and welfare, and urban development and safety are set to continue through Tuesday.
"The weight of being responsible for the lives of 300,000 residents feels greater than the joy of taking office," Park said. "I will set the restoration of resident sovereignty, field-centered communication, and expertise-driven sustainable urban development as the direction of district governance, and open a new golden age for Seodaemun-gu together with its residents."
