Gwangsan-gu in the South Jeolla Province-Gwangju integrated special city conducted a standing infectious disease crisis management drill to strengthen its capacity for swift, systematic disease response.
The district organized the exercise to build a practice-oriented training framework and sharpen staff proficiency in handling infectious diseases that may arise in everyday settings.
The drill focused on waterborne and foodborne infectious diseases, including food poisoning, and consisted of two components: a foundational course on waterborne and foodborne disease response, and a simulated epidemiological investigation based on a hypothetical outbreak scenario.
Gwangsan-gu is also working to develop specialist personnel in infectious disease response. The district was the first in the South Jeolla Province-Gwangju integrated special city area to train an epidemiological investigator, and a second investigator has since completed the full certification course, bringing the district's total to two.
"Infectious diseases can break out at any time, so we will continue to strengthen our response capabilities through repeated education and training," district mayor Park Byeong-gyu said. "We will protect the health and safety of our residents through hands-on drills and the cultivation of expert personnel."
