The Daegu-Gyeongbuk Free Economic Zone Authority (DGFEZ) held a seminar Wednesday on advancing the future medical innovation industry ecosystem at Interbulgo Hotel Daegu in Manchon-dong.
DGFEZ hosted the event, with the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Advanced Medical Industry Promotion Foundation and Pohang Technopark serving as organizers.
About 60 people attended, including DGFEZ Deputy Director General Kim Hee-seok, Daegu-Gyeongbuk Advanced Medical Industry Promotion Foundation Center Director Kim Heon-tae and Pohang Technopark Deputy Director General Ko Dong-gyu, along with representatives from biotech, healthcare and AI companies in the zone and officials from public and research institutions.
The seminar aimed to share the latest trends and real-world applications of AI technology in the biotech and medical industries, and to explore strategies for advancing AI-based biotech through collaboration among industry, academic and research experts.
Four speakers covered a range of topics. Kyungpook National University professor Lee Hyeon-sik spoke on universities' emerging role in driving regional biotech innovation; Nova IP Vice President Seong Rak-gyu addressed intellectual property strategies through technology transfer cases; BrainU CEO Kim Gwang-mu discussed AI applications in brainwave analysis; and Korea University assistant professor Kim Seung-gyu covered advances in preclinical pharmacokinetic prediction — the study of how drugs are absorbed, distributed, metabolized and excreted in the human body.
"We hope this seminar will help the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Free Economic Zone emerge as a global hub for biotech and medical innovation," said Kim Hee-seok, head of DGFEZ's innovation and growth division.
