KT Cloud is moving to expand its Yeouido data center, aiming to establish it as South Korea's leading ultra-low-latency financial hub.
The company announced Friday that it has begun construction to scale up the Yeouido DC — its finance-focused data center — as part of efforts to build next-generation financial infrastructure capable of keeping pace with rapid changes in the capital markets.
The expansion responds directly to rising infrastructure demand driven by structural shifts in financial markets and growing global investment flows. KT Cloud plans to develop the Yeouido DC into a central financial infrastructure node connecting financial institutions, exchanges and global cloud services.
South Korea's financial markets are evolving quickly, with the spread of multi-market trading systems and a surge in digital transactions pushing institutions to connect simultaneously to multiple venues and process large volumes of data in real time. Demand for ultra-low-latency trading environments and stable financial service operations is also climbing as global investors increase their participation in the domestic market.
The Yeouido DC sits close to the Korea Exchange (KRX) and other major financial institutions at the heart of South Korea's capital markets. Its physical proximity to the exchange gives it a structural advantage in delivering ultra-low-latency trading conditions.
For core financial operations — real-time trading, market data processing and risk management — the location and connectivity of a data center have an outsized impact on service quality and competitiveness.
KT Cloud will enhance its proximity server hosting service, leveraging the site's closeness to the exchange to help financial institutions build efficient ultra-low-latency trading environments. The company will also provide the connectivity and security features the financial sector demands, including cross-connect, One DC network, HCX (Hyper-Connectivity eXchange) and Clean Zone, a DDoS mitigation service.
Through this expansion, KT Cloud aims to add two floors of capacity, targeting completion in June 2027. The company also plans to gradually extend its finance-focused data center footprint by securing additional sites within the Yeouido area.
"Structural changes in financial markets are making financial infrastructure that supports ultra-low-latency trading and stable connectivity increasingly important," KT Cloud CEO Kim Bong-gyun said. "We will develop the Yeouido DC into South Korea's premier financial infrastructure hub and actively support financial institutions' digital innovation and global market connectivity."
