Bus driver's final act prevents mass casualties

A bus driver's last act before losing consciousness prevented what could have been a major accident. The man in his 50s kept his passengers from mass casualties but did not survive.

At around 4:46 p.m. Saturday, a man in his 50s identified only by the surname initial A lost consciousness while driving a limousine bus on a road in Yeongjong District.

Paramedics transported A to a hospital while administering CPR for cardiac arrest, but he died about two hours later.

As his consciousness faded, he is believed to have pulled the bus over to the shoulder. The bus was en route from Seoul to Incheon International Airport at the time, carrying about 10 passengers.

Police are investigating the exact circumstances of his death, taking into account that he had a pre-existing medical condition.

"A pulled the bus over to the shoulder before losing consciousness, so no additional accident occurred," a police official said, adding that his death was believed to have been caused by the underlying condition.
