Iran says 3 sites in Abadan struck, suspects US projectiles

A series of explosions struck Abadan and other locations in southwestern Iran as armed conflict between the United States and Iran over control of the Strait of Hormuz intensifies. A provincial security official said the strikes were believed to have been carried out by the US.

Iran's state-run IRNA news agency reported that Valiollah Hayati, deputy governor for security affairs in Khuzestan Province, said three locations in Abadan were hit by enemy projectiles at around 1:45 p.m. Monday.

Hayati said one person had been injured in the projectile attack so far and said the US was believed to be responsible.

Iran's Mehr News Agency subsequently reported that at least two people were killed in the attack on Abadan.

Iranian authorities said they would release details on the incident after further investigation.

Multiple explosions were also heard in the southern Iranian areas of Qeshm and Bandar Abbas, the agency said.

The targets were reported to be military facilities in Qeshm and Bandar Abbas, though no additional casualties or significant damage had been reported as of Monday.
