Japan's Takaichi vows continued Ukraine support, Russia sanctions

Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae reaffirmed her commitment to continuing support for Ukraine and maintaining sanctions against Russia, saying the international community must work together to bring Moscow to the negotiating table through US engagement.

According to Japan's Foreign Ministry on Tuesday, Takaichi delivered the message at the "Coalition of the Willing" summit for Ukraine support, held Monday in Paris.

Takaichi said that to achieve a sustainable peace in Ukraine, US engagement in pressing Russia to take positive and immediate action is essential, as is solidarity among allied nations.

"Japan's unwavering position of standing with Ukraine will never change," she said, adding that both the government and the private sector would continue providing support for war damage recovery and reconstruction.

She also said she "underscores the importance of the principled stance that any attempt to unilaterally change the status quo by force must never be tolerated," reaffirming Japan's resolve to press ahead with support for Ukraine and sanctions against Russia.
