BNK Financial Group launched a second-half organizational restructuring, announcing Wednesday that it has reorganized its holding company and key subsidiaries to sharpen execution of its management strategy and strengthen its role as a regional lender.
The restructuring was driven by three priorities: strengthening responsiveness to the regional economy, localizing its ESG strategy and preparing for the future of finance. The overhaul focuses on the systematic execution of strategies tailored to the Busan-Ulsan-South Gyeongsang region and on expanding productive financial supply to the area's key industries.
At the group holding company level, a dedicated Busan-Ulsan-South Gyeongsang economic research team will be established under BNK Management Research Institute to deepen analysis of regional economic trends and serve as a strategic think tank. A separate Busan-Ulsan-South Gyeongsang ESG strategy team will also be created to identify regional ESG priorities and broaden the group's role as a community-oriented financial institution through locally rooted ESG initiatives.
The group is also building out its future finance capabilities. A new AI transformation task force will oversee group-wide AI-driven business innovation and digital transformation, while a digital asset task force will address shifts in the financial environment — including payments and digital assets — to secure new growth engines.
The banking subsidiaries are likewise strengthening support for regional industries. Both Busan Bank and Kyongnam Bank will each establish an industrial finance strategy team to develop industry-focused financial strategies aligned with the policy direction of the ninth term of elected local government. The teams will build financial support systems centered on strategic industries in their respective regions, including small modular reactors, defense, aerospace and eco-friendly shipbuilding.
Busan Bank will create a marine finance task force to recruit specialists and develop ship financing and marine infrastructure finance projects. The bank is also moving its technology assessment function into its innovation growth finance division to bolster investment support for venture firms and startups.
Kyongnam Bank will establish a business succession support team in response to growing demand from small and medium-sized enterprises navigating generational transitions. The team will offer one-stop succession consulting and financial support to help regional companies achieve stable handovers and continued growth.
"We will advance our research capabilities centered on the Busan-Ulsan-South Gyeongsang region, strengthen our ESG and AI and digital asset response frameworks, and expand productive finance for regional strategic industries — realizing a model of finance that grows together with the community," a BNK Financial Group official said.
