A man in his 80s died of heatstroke after collapsing in a field in Uljin-gun, North Gyeongsang Province, during a heat wave.
The man's wife found him collapsed in a field in Eumnam-ri, Uljin-eup, Uljin-gun, at around 1:25 p.m. Wednesday and called 119, according to the North Gyeongsang Province fire department.
Paramedics transported him to a nearby hospital, but he was pronounced dead. The cause of death was confirmed as heatstroke.
His body temperature at the time was measured at 38 degrees Celsius.
He had left home at around 6 a.m. Wednesday to work in the field.
The maximum daytime temperature in Uljin that day reached 37.3 degrees Celsius, with the heat index climbing to 36.9 degrees Celsius.
Police and fire authorities are investigating the exact circumstances of his death.
