Ulleung-gun in North Gyeongsang Province held a public-private consultative forum Friday at the senior welfare center to strengthen cooperation between civic groups and local government in spreading a culture of charitable giving.
The gathering brought together officials from the Ulleung-gun county office, the Community Chest of Korea's Ulleung-gun chapter and its volunteer sharing corps, and members of the Ulleung-gun Community Social Security Council.
Participants shared updates on the operations and key activities of the Ulleung-gun Community Chest volunteer corps, followed by a presentation on the Community Social Security Council's "happiness fund" project.
Kim Ok-bun, head of the Ulleung-gun volunteer sharing corps, said she would "do her utmost in the field to look after marginalized neighbors and encourage more residents and small business owners to participate voluntarily in donations."
Jang Geum-suk, civilian chairperson of the Community Social Security Council, expressed gratitude for "the very encouraging sight of private organizations and government working together for community welfare," adding that she would "do her best to ensure that well-intentioned volunteer work bears good fruit."
Ulleung-gun County Chief Nam Han-gwon said the county would "continue to work closely with the Community Chest volunteer corps, the Community Social Security Council and other civic organizations to build a warm culture of giving that all residents can share in, and to do our utmost to improve local welfare."
