LG CNS wins Korea Airports Corporation AI contract to lead transformation at 14 airports

LG CNS will lead the AI transformation of 14 airports across South Korea, expanding its AX project portfolio beyond the public, financial, manufacturing and logistics sectors into the airport and aviation industry.

LG CNS announced Wednesday that it has won Korea Airports Corporation's "KAC AI Master Plan" project.

The project involves establishing a mid-to-long-term strategy and execution roadmap for applying AI across operations at 14 airports nationwide, including those in Gimpo, Gimhae and Jeju. Korea Airports Corporation has been pursuing 50 AI innovation initiatives since last year under the goal of "realizing the airport of the future through AI innovation."

LG CNS will refine Korea Airports Corporation's AI strategy and develop the master plan. The company will focus particularly on identifying core AI-powered services in three areas: airport operations optimization, customer service innovation and safety management system development. To that end, LG CNS will support the entire process, from AI strategy consulting and AI and data architecture design to AI governance establishment, proof-of-concept validation of key initiatives and follow-on project execution planning.

A safety management service based on "agentic AI" is one flagship example. When an abnormal situation arises at an airport, a field worker can verbally describe the incident, and an AI agent will automatically organize the account and generate a draft report, then guide the worker through the appropriate response procedures. The aim is to reduce the reporting burden on field staff during emergencies, support faster initial responses and upgrade on-site response systems through AI.

LG CNS will bring to the project its AX experience accumulated across the public, financial, manufacturing and logistics sectors, along with capabilities in generative and agentic AI, cloud and data technology. The company plans to support Korea Airports Corporation in improving operational efficiency and enhancing the customer experience, while expanding its AX portfolio into the airport and aviation sector.

Bae Min, head of LG CNS's financial and public business division, said the project goes beyond simply drawing up an IT strategy. "This is about designing the direction of AI transformation for South Korea's airport industry," he said. "We will contribute to realizing Korea Airports Corporation's vision of an AI-based airport of the future, drawing on LG CNS's AX capabilities."
