Cheongdo-gun in North Gyeongsang Province has been selected for the North Gyeongsang Provincial Office of Education's 2027 Future Education District program, the county announced Monday.
The four-year project, running from 2027 to 2030, will receive 1.6 billion won ($1.13 million) in funding.
The program will cover the establishment of an education governance framework for Cheongdo, curriculum development drawing on local resources, career exploration programs, community school operations and the identification of region-specific education initiatives.
Cheongdo-gun plans to build a cooperative network among the local community, the provincial education office and schools, creating an educational ecosystem in which the entire community takes part in raising children and developing a future education model tailored to the county's character.
"We will push ahead without delay with the Future Education District project — a campaign pledge of the ninth directly elected administration — so that children can learn, grow and freely pursue their dreams right here in their own community," county chief Park Gwon-hyeon said.
