Gunwi-gun health center brings alcohol, smoking prevention programs to local workers

The Gunwi-gun Health Center in Daegu held an outreach session Monday for employees of the Gunwi Post Office, offering a public lecture on high-risk drinking prevention and an on-site smoking cessation clinic.

The program was designed to bring alcohol harm prevention education and smoking cessation counseling directly to working adults who have difficulty visiting the health center during regular hours.

The alcohol education component was conducted in partnership with the Gunwi-gun Mental Health and Welfare Center, covering topics such as understanding alcohol addiction, self-assessment of drinking habits, the effects of alcohol on physical and mental health, and practical strategies for reducing consumption — including how to decline drinks in social situations.

Alongside this, the mobile smoking cessation clinic offered carbon monoxide (CO) measurements, nicotine dependence assessments and one-on-one counseling for employees who smoke.

"Working adults may find it difficult to use health promotion services at the health center due to their work schedules," health center director Yun Yeong-guk said. "We will continue visiting workplaces directly to support healthy lifestyle practices such as smoking cessation and responsible drinking."
