Dongjak-gu, led by District Mayor Ryu Sam-young, will run a series of "book-cation programs" throughout August to mark the summer vacation and holiday season.
The district has organized lectures and hands-on activities at each of its libraries on a wide range of topics — including AI, finance and the humanities — open to participants of all ages, from toddlers and elementary school students to adults and families.
Kkamangdol Library (129 Seodalro) will hold a hands-on financial literacy class called "Financial Education for Nine-Year-Olds" for second- and third-grade elementary school students on Friday, Aug. 14, from 10 a.m. to noon.
On Wednesday, Aug. 19, and Aug. 26, from 10 to 11:30 a.m., content creator Dami (author Lee Seung-gi) will lead a session titled "Studio in Your Hands," covering how to use the Lightroom app, smartphone photography and video techniques, composition and editing — all with a focus on practical, everyday application.
At Sindaebang Nuri Library (19 Sindaebang 1-dagil), author Son Min-gyu — who worked as a book producer at YES24 and wrote "The Book on Choosing Books" — will give a lecture on Aug. 21 at 7 p.m., sharing tips on finding the right book for each reader and developing effective reading habits.
On Aug. 23, engineer and futurist Dr. Jeon Sang-hun will deliver a lecture titled "AI, College Admissions and Future Strategy" for 50 teenagers and parents, covering key admissions information including how the introduction of AI-based digital textbooks is reshaping university entrance trends and career pathways.
Kim Young-sam Library (1 Maebongno) will host "Figure Drawing — More Fun Because We're All Different" over two days, Aug. 27 and 28. Painter Kim Hyo-chan will teach figure-drawing techniques to 20 adults from 7 to 9 p.m. each evening; participants must attend both sessions.
On Aug. 29, the library will hold a picture-book art play session for 15 families with children in the early elementary grades, designed to nurture imagination and self-expression.
The district will also run age-tailored programs at additional libraries: a "Story Time with a Native Speaker" at Dongjak English Maru Library (98 Jangseungbaegiro 16-gil), a summer book-play session called "Let's Play Together, Summer Book Play" at Sadang Solbat Library (86 Solbatno), and a media literacy program called "Media Is My Friend" at Daul Small Library (132 Sadangno 20-gil).

"Even without traveling far in the sweltering summer heat, we have prepared a variety of programs so residents can discover new interests and have unique experiences at their neighborhood library," District Mayor Ryu said. "I hope many residents will spend a fulfilling summer of their own at the library through this book-cation."
