Korea East-West Power held a community outreach event Thursday titled "Walking Together: Healthy Meal Sharing to Help Seniors Beat the Heat," aimed at supporting vulnerable elderly residents through the sweltering summer. The event fell the day before malbok, the last of the three hottest periods in the traditional Korean lunar calendar.
President Kwon Myeong-ho and company employees personally served meals at three senior welfare centers in Ulsan — Hamwol Senior Welfare Center in Jung-gu, Nammok Senior Welfare Center in Dong-gu and a welfare center in Buk-gu. They also visited the homes of elderly residents living alone or on low incomes who have difficulty getting around, delivering healthy dosirak meals directly to their doors.
"Seniors have a weaker ability to regulate body temperature, which puts them at greater risk of heat-related illness and dehydration during a heat wave," Kwon said. "Proper nutrition and hydration are so important — and that is why we prepared 1,000 servings of healthy food."
The menu featured dishes known to help restore energy in summer, including loach soup, samgyetang and galbi, along with seasonal fruit.
Korea East-West Power purchased the ingredients at traditional markets using Onuri gift vouchers, contributing to consumer activity at local traditional markets in the region.
