Gyeongil University interpreters to support 2026 Daegu World Masters Athletics Championships

Gyeongil University announced Friday that its interpretation volunteer group, KIU Bridge, will provide interpreting services at the 2026 Daegu World Masters Athletics Championships, a 13-day event running Aug. 22 through Sept. 3.

The competition is expected to draw about 10,000 athletes and accompanying visitors from 106 countries to Daegu.

KIU Bridge has assembled a team of 50 members — including current students proficient in English, Japanese and other foreign languages, international students, and faculty — to assist foreign participants with communication and on-site guidance.

Student representatives and faculty from KIU Bridge attended a volunteer kickoff ceremony at Exco in Daegu on July 30.

"I hope this experience gives students an opportunity to develop global competencies — not just foreign-language skills, but the ability to understand and connect with people from diverse cultures," said Kwon Ye-seul, head of the KIU Bridge interpretation volunteer group.
