Kim Young-bae elected Seoul Democratic Party chief, vows 'no more defeats'

Rep. Kim Young-bae, who represents Seoul's Seongbuk-gap district, was elected chairman of the Democratic Party of Korea's Seoul Metropolitan chapter on Sunday.

The Seoul chapter chose Kim at its third regular membership convention held at Kintex in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province.

Running unopposed, Kim won the chairmanship with 74.24 percent of votes cast in favor.

In his acceptance speech, Kim acknowledged the Democratic Party's defeat in the Seoul mayoral race at the last local elections, pledging to "build a Seoul that never loses again and never again opens the door to insurrection forces."

Kim outlined plans to establish a special task force to counter Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon's city administration, a youth affairs bureau within the Seoul chapter and a policy research institute, saying he would "prepare for the upcoming general election and a possible Seoul mayoral by-election."
