Uiseong-gun hosts 2nd Asia Curling Club Championships

The 2nd Uiseong Asia Curling Club Championships opened Saturday at the Uiseong Curling Center, kicking off four days of competition that run through Monday.

According to Uiseong-gun, 38 teams and about 200 athletes and officials from 18 regions across six Asian countries — South Korea, Taiwan, China (including Hong Kong and Macao), Thailand, Singapore and Japan — are taking part in the tournament.

Uiseong-gun Mayor Choi Yu-cheol, Korea Curling Federation President Han Sang-ho, Asia Curling Club Federation President Jang Mun-ik and other guests attended the opening ceremony, celebrating the event's launch and offering encouragement to the competing athletes.

The competition began with group-stage play on Friday, with the round of 24 and round of 16 scheduled for Sunday, followed by the quarterfinals, semifinals and final on Monday.

"We will continue to host international curling events so that Uiseong can establish itself not just as a hub in South Korea but as the center of curling exchange across Asia," Mayor Choi said.
