Seoul's Yongsan-gu said it successfully held the "2026 Yongsan Kium Sports Day" on Friday at the Wonhyo-ro Multi-Purpose Indoor Gymnasium (51-25 Wonhyo-ro 3-ga).
Now in its second year, the event was organized by the Yongsan-gu Woori Dongne Kium Center Federation. District Mayor Kim Gyeong-dae joined elementary school children, parents and officials — about 200 participants in all — for a day of unity and fun.
The event was designed to give elementary school children who use the Yongsan-gu Woori Dongne Kium Centers a range of physical activities, strengthening their sense of belonging and supporting healthy development.
By creating a festival where children take center stage in the broader community outside school, the event also aimed to spread a local care culture in which children grow and connect with one another.
The program opened with a K-pop dance performance by children from the Woori Dongne Kium Center Federation, followed by safety education, relay races and a candy relay, all of which drew an enthusiastic response from participants.
Parents were also invited to join in dedicated activities, fostering family communication and giving children and guardians a shared moment of laughter and togetherness.
Children who took part said they were happy to run and play freely with friends after a long time and that they definitely want to come back next year.
District Mayor Kim said the Woori Dongne Kium Centers play a vital role in filling childcare gaps for dual-income households and other families in the community, offering children a wide range of programs — from play to learning — to help them grow up healthy and happy. "We will continue to do our best to build a tight-knit care environment where children can grow up safe and happy," he said.
