Ronaldo signs prenup day before wedding, keeping $1.2b fortune separate

Global football star Cristiano Ronaldo, 41, and Georgina Rodriguez, 32, have married after a decade-long relationship — and it has emerged that the couple signed a prenuptial agreement the day before their wedding, opting to keep their assets separate.

According to Portuguese daily Jornal de Noticias (JN) and Spain's El Pais, Ronaldo and Rodriguez held a private civil ceremony in Cascais, Portugal, on Tuesday. The couple announced the news themselves by posting photos on social media showing them wearing wedding rings.

The ceremony was attended by the couple's five children and four witnesses. Ronaldo's mother and siblings were not present.

What drew particular attention was the prenuptial agreement the couple signed, in which they chose a full separation of assets.

According to JN, the two signed the prenuptial agreement at a notary's office in Lisbon on Monday — the day before the wedding — formally electing the separation-of-property regime.

Under Portuguese civil law, choosing a full separation of assets means that not only property held before the marriage but also assets each spouse acquires after the wedding remain, in principle, individually owned. Property purchased jointly or designated as shared is an exception.

As a result, Ronaldo and Rodriguez will each manage their own finances independently even after marriage.

Their marriage registration records also state that both will continue using their existing surnames and that they will maintain their current residence in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Earlier reports of a separate financial arrangement between the two have also resurfaced in light of the wedding.

British outlet The Sun, citing previous reporting by Portuguese and Spanish media, said the couple had an agreement under which Rodriguez would receive about 100,000 euros ($115,000) per month in the event of a separation, along with the family's mansion at La Finca in Madrid.

The arrangement was first reported in 2023 by Portuguese entertainment outlet TV Guia, which said the couple had reached a separate agreement covering a potential split — including a lifetime monthly payment of about 100,000 euros to Rodriguez and the transfer of the family home.

However, the monthly payment and the La Finca mansion were not confirmed in the marriage registration records made public this time.

The couple's relationship began in 2016, when Ronaldo met Rodriguez while she was working as a sales associate at a luxury brand store in Madrid. They went public with their relationship the following year.

Together they are raising five children: twins Eva Maria and Mateo, 9; daughter Alana, 8; daughter Bella, 4; and Ronaldo's eldest son from a previous relationship, Ronaldo Jr., 16.

Meanwhile, Forbes estimated Ronaldo's net worth at approximately $1.2 billion in June. His earnings over the previous 12 months came to about $300 million, placing him atop the list of the world's highest-paid athletes.
