Lucy vocalist Choi Sang-yeop announces surprise marriage to non-celebrity partner this month

Choi Sang-yeop, vocalist of the band Lucy, will marry this month.

Mystic Story, Lucy's agency, announced Monday that Choi "is about to embark on a new chapter with a cherished person in August."

His bride-to-be is not a public figure, and Choi has chosen to hold a private ceremony out of consideration for her.

"We ask for your generous understanding, as we are unable to disclose the specific details of the ceremony," the agency said. "We would be grateful if you could watch over them with warm hearts."

Choi also shared the news directly with fans by posting a handwritten letter on his fan community page Monday, writing that he is "about to begin a new chapter in life with someone I have cherished and leaned on for a long time."

"I know some of you may be surprised by this sudden news," he wrote, adding that he "wanted to share this precious moment in my life with you before anyone else" as his reason for making the announcement himself.

He went on to say, "I am sincerely grateful to all the fans who have always shown me more love than I deserve and who have been with me so that I can make music happily as a member of Lucy."

Choi plans to continue his music career as a member of Lucy after the wedding.

Lucy is a four-member band that debuted in 2020 and has built a strong following with songs including "Gaehwa," "Jogging" and "Geunyeoga Utjana."

The band will hold an encore concert, "Island," at Korea University's Hwajung Gymnasium in Seoul from Oct. 23 to 25.
