Keimyung University museum college launches lecture series on the lives of Joseon kings

The Keimyung Citizens Education Institute's museum college at Keimyung University announced Thursday that it is launching a history and culture lecture series for the second semester of the 2026 academic year, titled "A King's Life — From Royal Placenta Chambers to Jongmyo," and is now accepting applications.

The series opens Sept. 10 with a lecture by Moon Dong-su, director of the Bucheon City Museum, titled "Court Documentary Paintings: A Window into the King's Daily Life."

Subsequent sessions will feature Oh Hang-nyeong, emeritus professor at Jeonju University, speaking on "The Stories of King Danjong and King Sejo"; Yoon Jin-young, adjunct professor in the graduate school at Dongduk Women's University, on "Joseon Dynasty Royal Placenta Mound Paintings"; Kim Dong-wook, emeritus professor at Kyonggi University, on "The Architecture of Joseon Royal Tombs"; Bang Byeong-seon, emeritus professor at Korea University, on "Royal Placenta Jars of the Joseon Court"; Kim Mun-sik, professor at Dankook University, on "How Did Joseon's Kings Study?"; and Shin Myeong-ho, professor at Pukyong National University, on "Living as a Queen of Joseon."

The latter half of the series will include lectures by Shim Hyeon-yong, director of the Korea Taesil Research Institute, on "The Story of Korea's Royal Placenta Chambers," and Cho Jae-mo, professor at Kyungpook National University, on "Jongmyo and Chilgung." A field trip to a cultural heritage site is also scheduled for Oct. 22.

Kim Gwon-gu, dean of the museum college, said the series traces "the full arc of a king's life, from birth to the memory preserved after death," adding that he hopes it will offer participants "a chance to rediscover the value of Joseon history and royal cultural heritage."
