Busan Port Authority begins shipping domestic automated cranes to New Port's west container terminal

The Busan Port Authority (BPA) announced Wednesday that it has begun the phased transport of 34 domestically manufactured automated transfer cranes — also known as yard cranes — to the Busan New Port West Container Terminal Phase 2-6, South Korea's first automated container terminal.

The equipment underwent structural assembly and inspection at Jaseongdae Wharf in the North Port starting last April. On Monday, BPA successfully completed the maritime transport of the first two of the 34 transfer cranes. The remaining units will be shipped in 17 separate trips through April 2027, with each voyage from the North Port to the New Port taking about six hours.

Upon arrival at the New Port, the cranes will undergo test runs and other follow-up procedures. BPA completed the delivery of six container cranes — also called quay cranes — over roughly eight months, finishing the process in June.
