Suncheon covers 50% of out-of-pocket medical expenses
Suncheon has launched a medical cost support project for residents with kidney disabilities, aiming to ease the financial burden of ongoing treatment.
Under the program, the city will cover 50% of out-of-pocket medical expenses — including hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis costs, transplant testing fees, and vascular and transplant surgery costs — up to 1.8 million won ($1,300) per year.
Eligible residents are those registered as having a severe kidney disability who live in Suncheon and whose household income falls at or below 120% of the median income standard.
"People with kidney disabilities face a heavy financial burden from ongoing hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis," a city official from the family welfare division said. "We hope this will provide at least some relief to those experiencing economic hardship."
Those wishing to apply may do so through the administrative welfare center in their local town, township or neighborhood office.
