Nine teams from Seoul arts university hold 6-day residency camp in Gurye-gun

Students from the Korea National University of Arts in Seoul held a residency camp in Gurye-gun, spending five nights and six days engaging in arts activities alongside local residents.

According to Gurye-gun, 37 students in nine teams visited Sandong-myeon's Sansuyu Village from Monday through Saturday, taking part in a range of cultural and arts programs that included vocal coaching sessions, sansuyu character animation production, portrait-drawing workshops with residents and Korean traditional music busking performances.

Gurye-gun and the Korea National University of Arts have operated the summer residency camp annually since signing an MOU in September 2022. Interest has grown each year — this cycle drew applications from 108 students across 29 teams, of whom nine teams totaling 37 students were selected.

Student work from the camps has also begun generating recognition for the region. A short film titled "Wolnam Bosal," made by a team that participated in last year's Gurye residency camp and filmed on location, won the top prize in the "Zero Conduct" section of the 22nd Mise-en-scène Short Film Festival.

"The residency camp is helping students who will grow into artists deepen their understanding of art's public role, while bringing fresh cultural and artistic energy to the Gurye community," a county office official said.
