Election commission special prosecutor sends preservation order for Olympic Park vote-counting site

Lee Tae-han, the special prosecutor investigating the ballot shortage during the June 3 local elections, said all 20 seconded prosecutors will be in place by Sept. 7.

Lee said Monday through a press notice that one deputy chief prosecutor and one prosecutor had reported for duty that day, bringing the total number of seconded prosecutors on staff to five.

The special prosecutor's team now includes one chief prosecutor, one deputy chief prosecutor and three line prosecutors.

The team also sent a written request to the National Election Commission asking it to preserve the vote-counting site at Olympic Park in its current state, following the effective conclusion of the National Assembly's parliamentary investigation special committee's activities Monday.

In addition, the team received the full set of relevant investigation records from the joint prosecution-police investigative headquarters and began reviewing them with the seconded prosecutors.

After completing the review, the team plans to finalize an investigation plan and launch a full-scale investigation when the special prosecutor's office formally opens on Sept. 7.
