Dongdaemun-gu in Seoul will issue 2 billion won ($1.46 million) worth of "Dongdaemun-gu Love Gift Vouchers" starting at 11 a.m. on Sept. 16, aiming to ease the financial burden of chuseok shopping and boost sales for local small businesses.
The vouchers can be purchased through the Seoul Pay+ app at a 5% discount. Each person may buy up to 500,000 won per month and hold up to 1.5 million won at a time, and the vouchers are valid for five years from the date of purchase.
The vouchers are redeemable at Seoul Pay+ member merchants within Dongdaemun-gu. However, use is restricted at some business types, including hypermarkets and department stores. Customers can check whether a specific merchant participates through the Seoul Pay+ app.
Sales may close early once the full issuance amount is exhausted. For more information, residents can contact the Seoul Pay+ customer center or the Dongdaemun-gu Office's Economic Promotion Division.
Dongdaemun-gu District Mayor Choi Dong-min said he hoped the voucher issuance would offer some relief to residents feeling the pinch of rising prices ahead of chuseok. "I hope local spending will translate into higher sales for small business owners and help revitalize the local economy," he added.
