Taebaek is a sacred mountain. The name — rendered as Taibai, Taebae or Tepe in various languages — appears countless times across the globe wherever traces of the Korean people can be found.
The Taebaek in Gangwon Province is one among many, but with Koreans now occupying only the southern half of the peninsula, it stands as the sole sacred mountain of the nation in South Korea.
It has been 10 years since Taebaeksan was elevated to national park status. Korea Railroad Corporation's Taebaek Station announced Thursday that it has teamed up with the Taebaeksan office of the Korea National Park Service to hold a "Taebaeksan National Park Photo Exhibition" in the station's waiting hall, running through Sunday. The exhibition spans 10 days in total.
The event was organized to mark the 10th anniversary of Taebaeksan's designation as a national park, with the aim of showcasing the mountain's scenic beauty across all four seasons and the richness of its natural ecosystem to rail passengers and local residents alike.
Taebaek Station plans to build on the exhibition by expanding collaboration with nearby institutions, taking a leading role in promoting local tourism resources and attracting visitors through railway infrastructure. The station aims to grow beyond a simple transit point into a cultural and leisure destination that enhances Taebaek's appeal as a tourism city.
